Lithuania Expands TRP Access: New Visa Centers Open: What It Means for African Students

The Lithuanian government has just made a major move that could reshape visa access for African students. Beginning July 1st, new Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) application centers will open in Ghana, Zimbabwe, and Vietnam. This update comes as a relief to many aspiring international students across Africa who’ve faced challenges applying for Lithuanian residence permits due to distance, cost, or embassy limitations.

Here’s what this means and how you should position yourself if you’re planning to study in Lithuania through EERIV Europe.

Why Is This a Big Deal?

For years, most African students interested in studying in Lithuania have had to travel to another country (like South Africa, Kenya, or the UAE) to apply for a TRP. Not only did this make the process expensive, but also logistically stressful.

With new TRP centers opening in Ghana and Zimbabwe, the process becomes more:

  •  Accessible
  •  Affordable
  •  Efficient

Now, if you’re based in or near West Africa or Southern Africa, you no longer need to fly across the continent to start your Lithuanian dream.

Countries Where TRP Centers Will Be Closed

While Lithuania is expanding access in some regions, it is closing TRP processing in the following countries:

  • Albania
  • Argentina
  • United Arab Emirates (UAE)
  • Venezuela

This means if you’re a student in any of these countries, you’ll now need to reroute your application through another center or consult the Lithuanian Migration Department for alternative procedures.

What This Means for African Students

If you’re an African student considering Lithuania for your higher education especially through EERIV Europe’s partner universities, here’s what you need to know:

1. New Centers = Easier Access

You can now apply for your TRP directly in:

  • Ghana (for West African nations like Cameroon, Nigeria, Togo, Ivory Coast, etc.)
  • Zimbabwe (for Southern African nations like Zambia, Malawi, and Botswana)

This reduces time and travel, especially for students from countries that previously had no Lithuanian representation.

 2. Apply Early

With these new centers launching in July , the queues will build up quickly. Students applying for January or March intakes should start gathering their documents now to be ready once the centers go live.

 3. Your EERIV Europe Coordinator Can Help
